About the Company:
Sagan represents a boutique mergers and acquisitions advisory firm that partners with buyers seeking to acquire privately owned businesses. The firm specializes in identifying qualified acquisition opportunities, engaging directly with business owners, and evaluating whether businesses align with specific acquisition mandates.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a commercially minded M&A Analyst to serve as the first point of contact with business owners. Rather than focusing primarily on financial modeling or transaction execution, this role centers on conducting thoughtful conversations with company owners, quickly building trust, understanding their businesses, and determining whether they meet acquisition criteria for prospective buyers.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical thinking with exceptional communication skills. They are naturally curious, comfortable speaking with executives, and able to assess businesses from both a financial and strategic perspective while creating a positive experience for business owners.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct interviews and discovery calls with business owners regarding potential acquisition opportunities.
Build rapport quickly and establish credibility with founders and executives.
Evaluate businesses against predefined acquisition mandates and investment criteria.
Assess qualitative and quantitative information to determine whether opportunities should advance.
Prepare clear summaries and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
Maintain detailed records of conversations, findings, and next steps within the CRM.
Coordinate follow-up communication with business owners when additional information is required.
Identify potential risks, strengths, and areas requiring further due diligence.
Collaborate with internal acquisition teams to ensure qualified opportunities move efficiently through the pipeline.
Continuously improve qualification processes and contribute insights that enhance sourcing effectiveness.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Invetsment , or a related field.
2 years of experience in M&A, corporate finance, transaction advisory, valuation, investment banking, private equity, commercial banking, business consulting, or a similar analytical role.
Strong executive presence with the ability to build trust quickly over the phone and video calls.
Ability to analyze businesses and make sound commercial judgments.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Comfortable conducting multiple discovery interviews each week.
Experience using CRM systems and documenting client interactions.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Nice to Haves:
Exposure to buy-side acquisitions or search fund operations.
Understanding of financial statements and business valuation principles.
Experience qualifying acquisition targets.
Background in entrepreneurship, commercial lending, or business consulting.
Additional language skills are a plus.
