Location: Remote

Hours: Monday–Friday, 16:00–00:00 SAST (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM US Central Time)

Type: Long-term, part of a small team

About us
We are a small US law firm. We help families navigate government benefit programs, estate planning, and probate. Most of the people who call us are adult children trying to sort out care for a parent, often on the worst week of their year.

We are deliberately low volume and high touch. We would rather serve fewer families extremely well than many families adequately.

Volume
This is not a high pressure non stop job. Some days you will handle a handful of calls. There will be real downtime. If you need constant activity to stay engaged, this role will frustrate you.

What we need is someone who stays sharp and available during the quiet, so that when a call does come in, it is answered warmly and handled properly. Every single call matters here.

The upside: the person who handles this well and shows they can take on more will get more — scheduling coordination, client follow-up, document tracking, CRM management. The role has room to grow into something bigger and better paid.

What you’ll do

  1. Answer inbound calls on two lines, warmly and professionally
  2. Screen new callers and gather short intake information accurately
  3. Schedule consultations
  4. Take detailed messages and follow up on callbacks
  5. Keep our CRM and task system current
  6. Take on additional responsibilities as you demonstrate you’re ready

Requirements — please read carefully

  1. Fluent, clearly understandable English. You will speak with elderly Americans and their families. We will assess this by voice.
  2. Reliable, high-quality internet suitable for VoIP. We use Quo. Fibre strongly preferred. Unstable connections or audio problems are the single fastest way this role fails.
  3. Prior inbound phone experience. Call centre, reception, front desk, or similar.
  4. Genuine active listening. Callers are often stressed, grieving, or confused. You need to hear what they actually said.
  5. Excellent phone presence. Warm, calm, unhurried, professional.
  6. Scheduling experience. Calendars, appointments, coordinating across time zones.
  7. Full availability during your shift. No other jobs, clients, or freelance work during these hours. This is not negotiable.
  8. A quiet, private workspace with a proper headset.

How we work
We care far more about doing things right than doing them fast. We would rather you take an extra minute to confirm a phone number than rush and get it wrong. Nobody here is measured on call volume or handle time. You will be measured on accuracy, warmth, and follow-through.

To apply
Send us:

  1. Your CV / Resume
  2. A short voice recording (60–90 seconds) introducing yourself and describing your interest or skills
  3. A screenshot of a recent speed test (speedtest.net) showing your download speed, upload speed, and ping
  4. A one-line description of your internet setup (fibre / LTE / other, and provider)
