The Role

You’ll be responsible for:

Narrative strategy (monthly): Lead client strategy calls to decide what they should be known for; translate into concrete story ideas and angles.
Relationship pipeline: Build tight journalist lists (≈15–20 per narrative) and maintain a high-touch, long-cycle cadence with updates.
Targeted pitching: Personalised outreach to secure interviews (radio/TV) and commissioned op-eds/features; minimal mass press releases.
Content support: Draft op-eds, interview briefs, talking points and expert commentary quotes; fill spare time by writing quotes for other PR clients between waves.
Source material: Often derive narratives from client podcast recordings/transcripts; watch/skim and turn into angles.
Light tooling: Internal use of Airtable is fine; Google Sheets equally fine. No specific tooling requirement.
Cross-time-zone comms: Default EU hours; be ready for the odd late reply when US interviews are being set.

First-90-Day Wins

Narratives live — For 1–2 priority clients, define three quarterly narratives with matching 15–20 journalist lists; outreach in motion.
Early coverage — Secure ~3–5 pieces of coverage by Day 90; establish repeatable follow-up cadence.
Operating rhythm — Monthly workflow in place (strategy call → targeted outreach → tracking → closes) that fits EU-hours team and US media realities.

The Person

Proven traditional PR track record (media relations, story development, interview/op-ed placement).
Evidenced ability to build journalist relationships and pitch credibly to specialist reporters/editors.
Comfortable running monthly strategy conversations and converting them into targeted media plans.
Excellent writing across pitches, op-eds and expert quotes; organised, persistent follow-up; thrives in a long-cycle, relationship-led model.
Seniority bias: preference for a more experienced “old-head” operator, while not excluding exceptional 3–4 year profiles.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: R45,000 – R50,000 per month for 4 days a week

Through Marketing Pros, the successful candidate will have access to a shared workspace in Cape Town, a Slack group with other South Africa-based marketing professionals, and regular social and training events.
