About the job
JHC Consulting is looking for a Data Support Analyst to assist our team as we fulfill a mandate for a leading South African financial institution. This position is central to our process of rigorous analysis and written counsel. You will support our principals by ensuring that the quantitative foundations of our memoranda are accurate and thoroughly understood. As a fully remote firm, we rely on analysts who can work independently to examine data sets and help us translate complex figures into clear, written arguments.

The Role
Your daily work involves the close scrutiny of financial records, internal reports, and market data. You will spend much of your time extracting specific data points and verifying them against the claims made in internal corporate documents. You will draft short summaries and data tables that form the evidence base for our final memoranda. This is not a role for building dashboards or presentations: instead, you will provide the raw analytical material that allows a principal to sign their name to a piece of counsel with total confidence. You will be expected to read deeply, find the gaps in provided data, and articulate those gaps in plain English. Accuracy and a willingness to verify every figure are the most important parts of this role.

What You Bring
We are looking for an individual who is comfortable with numbers but even more comfortable with the written word. You should have a foundational understanding of data analysis and be able to use standard tools to organize and interpret information. An interest in corporate finance or institutional strategy is helpful, particularly in the context of our current work with a major financial group in South Africa. We value candidates who are skeptical of surface level data and who have the discipline to verify every claim. Since this is an entry level role, we prioritize a clear, logical thinking process and a willingness to learn our specific method of memorandum writing over years of professional experience. High quality writing and attention to detail are mandatory.

How We Work
At JHC Consulting, we believe that writing is the most effective form of thinking. We do not use slides or participate in typical ceremonies. Every engagement results in a signed memorandum that serves as a permanent record of our counsel. This model requires a high degree of individual accountability. When you provide data for a project, your work directly informs the conclusions reached by the firm. We operate with a small, deliberate team where every person is responsible for the integrity of the documents we produce. Our work is focused and quiet, prioritizing the quality of the written argument above all else.

Working at JHC Consulting
This is a full time, permanent position that is 100 percent remote. You will have the autonomy to manage your own schedule and work from a setting that allows for deep focus. We provide a professional environment where the quality of the written product is the primary metric of success. The position is paid, and the compensation is competitive for the role and the market. You will have the opportunity to learn from principals with backgrounds in corporate finance and strategic advisory while contributing to high level mandates. We do not require you to be in any specific location, as our firm is built for remote, independent work.
Our firm exists to provide a dissenting voice when necessary and a rigorous external challenge to internal corporate views. As a Data Support Analyst, you help provide the evidence required for that challenge. Every page we produce is authored by an individual who stands by their analysis. We look for colleagues who understand the gravity of signed work and who find satisfaction in the quiet discipline of thorough reading and precise writing.

Data Support Analyst

A small practice of private counsel, kept deliberately so. JHC Consulting is an independent advisory practice serving chairs, chief executives, and board committees on questions where the internal view requires serious external challenge and the record of that challenge must be written down. Written argument produces sharper thinking than conversation, and the person who signs a memorandum should be the person who read the file. The practice holds offices in Berlin and New York. The firm is kept small by design. The number of engagements accepted in any quarter is set by the author's capacity to read, to write, and to carry the work through to signature.
