Location: Remote (Open to Global Talent)
Salary Range: Up to 2500 USD/month (full-time), commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 30 – 40 hours per week. The role begins at 30 hours weekly during the onboarding and cleanup phase and may transition to full-time (40 hours) based on performance. Candidates must have at least 4 hours of daily overlap with Pacific Time business hours.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-directed Staff Accountant with mortgage lending accounting experience to oversee day-to-day accounting operations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing loan-level accounting, executing month-end close activities, and supporting reconciliation and audit initiatives. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently from documented procedures, and proactive written communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Record loan funding, loan sale activity, warehouse line advances/payoffs, escrows, gain-on-sale entries, and interim interest in QuickBooks Online using standardized journal entry templates.
Maintain the loan-level subledger from funding through investor purchase, ensuring accuracy against purchase advices.
Perform daily warehouse line reconciliations and promptly report any discrepancies.
Classify and record daily income and expense transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Monitor accounts payable inbox and process vendor invoices according to documented procedures.
Prepare and reconcile weekly commission and revenue-share reports.
Prepare accounts payable aging reports and ACH request reports for leadership approval.
Record wire activity accurately while adhering to internal controls.
Execute monthly close procedures, including loan-held-for-sale reconciliations and balance tie-outs.
Perform bank, credit card, and trust account reconciliations. Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules for leadership review.
Maintain depreciation schedules and recurring journal entries.
Complete historical reconciliation and accounting cleanup projects. Support external audits by preparing schedules and gathering requested documentation.
Assist with lender renewal applications and loan-related administrative reporting.
Identify and communicate discrepancies, missing information, or exceptions in writing.
Follow established accounting procedures and documentation standards consistently.
Qualifications:
2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience within a mortgage lender, mortgage banker, or similar financial services environment.
Experience with warehouse lines, purchase advices, and gain-on-sale accounting strongly preferred.
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills, including:
Ability to work independently from documented processes with minimal supervision.
Strong written English skills and proactive communication habits.
Ability to identify and escalate issues before they become problems.
Availability to dedicate this role as a primary professional commitment.
Reliable internet connection and a secure, private remote workspace.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with loan origination systems such as ARIVE or similar platforms.
Experience supporting financial audits or regulatory examinations.
Familiarity with mortgage trust or impound account handling.
Experience working with US-based lenders.
Knowledge of US GAAP accounting practices.
