BrandLaw is a trade mark and IP practice helping entrepreneurs and global businesses protect their brands. We are growing and need a reliable, detail-oriented administration assistant to support our attorneys with day-to-day trade mark prosecution and office administration.
This is not a legal role – no legal qualifications are required. We will train you on the trade mark processes. What we need is someone who takes ownership of their work, follows processes precisely, and can be trusted to work independently without constant oversight.
What the role involves:
- Downloading and filing documents from the CIPC Trade Mark Office portal and other sources.
- Preparing standard correspondence and documents from templates (e.g. Powers of Attorney, filing instructions, client letters).
- Following up with the Trade Mark Office on application numbers, filing dates, and status updates.
- Maintaining matter records, deadlines, and client files.
- Assisting with invoice preparation and basic bookkeeping tasks.
- Supporting attorneys with research, document preparation, and general administrative tasks.
- Learning and managing routine prosecution steps under attorney supervision.
What we are looking for:
- Meticulous attention to detail – accuracy matters more than speed in legal work.
- Someone who follows a process the same way every time and flags when something looks wrong.
- Excellent written English – clear, professional communication is essential.
- Comfortable with technology – cloud systems, email, spreadsheets, and picking up new tools quickly.
- Self-directed and dependable – you manage your own time and deliver without being chased.
- Ideally based in South Africa
- Available during standard business hours (some flexibility).
Nice to have (not required):
- Previous experience in a law firm, legal office, or professional services environment.
- Familiarity with CIPC or government filing portals.
- Experience with document management or CRM systems.
